Greenfingered Selby residents have been recognised for their stunning gardens and allotments in this year’s Selby In Bloom competition.
The competition, now in its 12th year, is run by Selby Town Council as part of its commitment to making Selby a greener and more pleasant place to live and work. The winners have now been announced and will be invited to a presentation ceremony at the Town Hall in September. The winners are: • Best Kept Commercial Premises: 1st, The Nelson Inn • Best Secret Garden: 1st, 92 Gowthorpe, 2nd, 130a Ousegate, 3rd, Community Garden (Selby Park) • Best Kept Garden: 1st, 26 Scott Road • Best Kept Allotment: Westbourne – 1st, Plot 26b • Best Kept Allotment: Stonebridge – 1st Plot 34, 2nd Plot 33a, 3rd Plot 27 This year, the council also erected hanging baskets and installed numerous planters in the town. In addition to this, the former telephone box on the junction with Park Street/New Street/Gowthorpe, was planted up with hayracks again around the outside of the box.
Judges included the Mayor, Cllr Keith Franks who was accompanied by Deputy Mayoress Cllr Melanie Davis. (10-08-10 SU)
